Rehabilitation Technology I

Donnerstag, 21.03.2024

The course will focus on the use of robotic devices and virtual reality for neurorehabilitation and assistance of neurological patients (e.g., brain and spinal cord injured patients). This course will introduce the neurophysiological principles of rehabilitation, cover the basics of robotic design and control, describe the state of the art and representative advances in rehabilitation robotic systems, as well as clinical applications and validation. Special emphasis will be placed in the discussion of the current active research topics and their clinical application. A visit to the Motor Learning and Neurorehabilitation laboratory at the newly established SITEM research center is also programmed. Students will be able to test several immersive virtual and augmented reality games specially developed for neurorehabilitation training and have a first hands-on experience with robotics systems for upper limb rehabilitation.
