Übung PF: Ethische Grundlagen Provenienzforschung

This course addresses ethical quandaries associated with private and institutional collecting and histories of repatriation. In guiding students towards developing a sturdy understanding of the ethics of collecting and display, contemporary developments, especially in the areas of colonial origins of museum collections, will be explored through critical reading response to selected texts. In the second phase of the course, students will become acquainted with ongoing ethical dilemmas associated with the conduct of research through exhibition visits (virtual or physical) and interviews with professionals working actively in provenance research. These will be followed with writing opinion pieces where students will critique and contextualize historical collections and displays through their encounters with texts, exhibitions, and experts.
