Solid Mechanics

The lecture Introduction to Continuum Mechanics exposes the theoretical foundations of solid mechanics necessary for describing the nonlinear behavior of biological tissues. The basic mathematical tools and the notions of strains, stresses, equilibrium, energetics and thermodynamics will be successively introduced in a general framework. The constitutive characteristics of linear elasticity will be explained. Finally, the principle of virtual work underlying the resolution of boundary value problems with the finite element method will be exposed.
