Artificial intelligence (AI) has become a fundamental topic in many areas of technology and society. With a rich development history, the domain has undergone radical shifts in thinking. As such, this course will provide a broad overview of the topic of AI. As an introduction course, a historical overview will be given on the topic and a number of technical frameworks and concepts will be introduced. Topics covered will include: Clinical decision support aims to improve healthcare delivery by enhancing medical decisions with targeted clinical knowledge, patient information, and other health information. Computer-aided clinical decision support employs health Information technology to assist physicians and other health professionals to combine their knowledge with computerized clinical knowledge base and patient-specific observations for a decision. This course will provide an overview of a number of clinical, technical and social economical aspects related to clinical decision support. Topics covered will include: - Clinical decision rules and expressions - Evidence synthesis for evidence-based medicine - Quality control, safety and cost-containment - Computer-aided knowledge generation and systems medicine - Data-driven and knowledge-guided learning - Computer-aided diagnostic decision support - Computer-aided treatment planning & therapy optimization - Ethical and legal issues in clinical decision support A course project with both theoretical and practical report will allow students to have a hands-on experience on methodologies and considerations of clinical decision support. Learning outcomes: - A general understanding of principles of clinical decision support - Experience in methodologies for computer-aided clinical decision support system
